Amy Winehouse's Disaya-designed 'Back to Black' Dress Sold at Kerry Taylor Auctions for $68,000 (Watch Video)

Some of the prices fetched at auctions can really surprise anyone in the world and it happened very recently at the London-based Kerry Taylor Auctions. The auction house had organized a bid for dresses of celebrities and the item that took everyone by surprise was the dress of multi-talented late British singer Amy Winehouse.

Amy Winehouse's 'Back to Black' Dress Auctioned for £42,200
Amy Winehouse's polka dot chiffon dress graced by the singer for the cover of her chart-busting music album “Back to Black” has fetched whopping £43,200 ($68,000), after some aggressive bidding and competition between several phone bidders and a bidder in the room. The final price was well above the pre-sale estimates of £10-20Kmade for the dress. The successful bidder was the ‘Fundacion Museo De La Moda’, a private fashion museum in Chile.

The Chilean foundation based at Santiago has already made three donations - each of £10,000 - to separate children's charities including a hospice and a project that helps seriously ill babies.

The dress was designed by Central Saint Martins graduate Disaya in 2006. Amy Winehouse never bought the dress but it was loaned to her for the album cover shoot and had been archived since then.

Proceeds from the Disaya-designed dress will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity set up by her father Mitch Winehouse to help young people struggling with ill health, poverty or addiction.

Mr Winehouse was very excited by the proceeding and result during the auction. He thanked both Disaya and Kerry for their support and the hard work they put in to generate that kind huge amount of money. He was very pleased as it had given a booming start to the foundation.
